The Nose

The nose, the main channel for breathing, performs several critical functions. The nasal membranes that line the nasal passages secrete liquid mucus which contains lysozyme, a chemical that destroys bacteria. The nose also plays an important role in warming and humidifying the air which enters the lungs. In addition, the nose and the olfactory senses also help create appetite.
